THE BLOG

Of course I’ve got a blog

And I’m going to use it.
What kind of writer doesn’t have a blog? But my blog is definitely my safe space where I write about literally anything. It’s lacking, shall we say, “structure”. I reason that everything else I write is heavily structured, so I get a free pass with the blog to blather on about anything I like. Leaving London for Devon in my early 30s, the thrills and fears of marriage, the second Sex and the City film (hey, don’t knock it ‘til you’ve watched it. Watch it, then knock it).

I really do like to keep myself guessing with my chosen blog fodder. Don’t try to make sense of it, just read it and tell me I’m funny.

Birthday Blues

Birthday Blues

As long as my friends and I can’t have a bloody meal in peace without being harassed simply for being female, as long as I cannot walk home from work at night without fearfully clutching my handbag just a little bit tighter to my body, as long as I am being paid less than my male counterpart, as long as it is actually legal for a company to force you to wear high heels, as long as we are STILL having to explain what “consent” means, as long as the top jobs are still going to boys instead of girls for insufficient reasons, as long as women are being beaten up and killed in their own homes by their own boyfriends, then yes. We do still have a fucking problem.

London Bridge is falling down

London Bridge is falling down

London Bridge has changed. It has quite possibly been changed for some time, it’s just that I haven’t been anywhere near it for a while (all my recent clients have been more central, so it’s been ages since I stood in the Mount Doom-esque shadow of The Shard). But...

IT’S NOT A THING

IT’S NOT A THING

I have always, like most normal people, been completely disgusted by Valentine’s Day. It’s a big ol’ corporate trick (that we fall for every single year) to get us to spend even MORE money we don’t have on shit we most certainly do not need. Seriously, when was the...

Once upon a time in Mexico…

So, even though two weeks away from my “desk” has resulted in a landslide of stuff to do on my return (pre-holiday me HATES post-holiday me’s guts and clearly wanted to make her suffer), my voyage to Mexico has left me buzzed, refreshed and generally more madly in...

Take me home

Take me home

During my time as a freelancer, I’ve worked in offices all over the country. But the “office” I spend most of time in is the one situated extremely close to my bed. I refer, of course, to my kitchen table because I live in Zone 2 and the idea of having access to an...

The Age of Lena

The Age of Lena

This week, the world was “rocked” (the world REALLY needs to check itself) by Lena Dunham posting a photo of two negative pregnancy tests on her Instagram account. The snap wasn’t designed as a newsflash, instead it was labelled clearly as a throwback photo and...

Kerning The Gap

Kerning The Gap

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be invited to a very, very special breakfast. On the top floor of The Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe, a group of creative types gathered to eat bagels, mingle and, above all, discuss one very important issue: women’s role in the...
